Thermal Management
Control over the temperature of (power) electronics
Heat is a natural byproduct of electronic and electrical systems. When this heat is not efficiently dissipated, component and system temperatures rise, leading to reduced performance and a shorter lifespan. With a well-designed thermal management system, temperature remains under control — ensuring consistent performance and long-term reliability.
Although thermal management is a crucial part of the design process for any electronic system or component, it is often overlooked or only becomes an issue during testing or operation of the final product. Our engineers understand the challenges device and system manufacturers face in achieving effective thermal control. In close collaboration with our suppliers, we develop application-specific solutions that enable fast and efficient heat dissipation at both the component and system level.
Heat transfer from the source
Understanding heat generation and the required dissipation starts with identifying the heat sources within the system. Today, these are often electronic circuits in the form of PCB assemblies, power electronics, and semiconductors, but our Center of Expertise also frequently addresses cooling challenges for battery and charging systems.
From the source, we determine the most efficient path for heat dissipation. During this process, factors such as the operating environment, required thermal interface materials, and the available space for heat sinks and fans are carefully considered. Each of these steps ultimately determines how much heat can be effectively and efficiently dissipated.
Which solution fits your application?
Finding the right thermal management solution doesn’t happen by chance. To assemble the optimal solution, several key questions need to be answered. Where and why is heat generated in the system? How much space is available for the cooling solution? Are there specific requirements or preferences for the application? What environmental factors come into play? These are just a few of the questions that guide our approach.
Depending on the answers, different options may be considered: a custom heatsink with fans, internal optimization of the enclosure, or a combination of multiple solutions. The possibilities are as diverse as the applications themselves.
Our engineers provide guidance from the initial design stage through to post-implementation. With our expertise and tailor-made solutions, we support every phase of the process, from concept development to implementation and optimization. Smarter focus. Brighter tomorrow.
